All the donations will go to the Indiana FFA Leadership Center. The money raised will help to maintain and guarantee a place for FFA members to have to themselves and for camps and conferences to be held. It also helps to pay for renovation to the State Officers house.

To make this fundraiser more exciting, it is a competition between each district and chapter. Also, to make it even more fun, we extended the competition to make it between Mrs. Markley's classroom and Mr. Hays'.

Rules:

Bring pennies or loose change in for your class. The change will be added up and the class with the most will win! In order to make the game more exciting, you may drop dollar bills in the opposing classes container to subtract from their total.

All proceeds will go to Give Hope. Be sure to get your money in the jars before September 26, 2011!

District II Kick-Off

If you are interested in going to District II Kick-off this year, it will be held on September 26, 2011 from 5 - 8:45 pm. This is one of the most exciting weeks for FFA chapters across the country. We hope to see all of our members participate in all of the wonderful activities we have planned this year!

Staff Appreciation Breakfast: Our Staff Appreciation Breakfast is one of our biggest chapter activities! It will be taking place on Friday, February 25th. FFA Officers and Seniors are to arrive at the high school at 5:45a.m. and all other members at 6:15a.m. During the breakfast, FFA members will be cooking and serving breakfast to over 100 staff members at WCHS. It is a way for us to show our appreciation for all they do. In order to be properly prepared for the breakfast, we ask that every member bring in at least 2 items. There is a sign-up sheet in the Ag. Department of items that need to be brought in. Also, it is MANDATORY that FFA members wear Official Dress to the breakfast!! After breakfast has been served to the staff, members will have the opportunity to sit down and eat breakfast together before they are dismissed to their first period class. We hope to see you there!

Family Bowling: On Sunday, February 20th, we will be having our family bowling day. This will be taking place at Northside Lanes (The Bowling Alley on SR 15) from 1-3:00p.m. We are still looking into details for pricing. We expect it to be similar to last year, which was $5.00 per person. This money must be turned in ahead of time! Please pay attention to announcements and bulletin boards for specific details. Since this is a family bowling day, we ask that you only bring family members! Aunts, Uncles, Grandma, Grandpa, Brother, Sister, Mom, Dad, but please, no friends or "significant others".

Luncheons: On Tuesday the 22nd and Thursday the 24th, we will be having a carry-in luncheon in the Ag. Department. No matter what lunch you have, you are welcome to come down to the Ag. Department for lunch and corn-hole. Please pay attention to bulletin boards and announcements for further information!

FFA Meeting: Our next FFA meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, February 23rd during FFA Week. The chapter will be providing dinner at 5:15p.m. In addition, there will also be a corn-hole tournament! Please plan on attending this meeting! Every meeting, we bring up important information that you may miss otherwise. We hope to see you there!

Theme Days: This year our themed days are as follows:

Tuesday, 22nd: College Sweatshirt/T-Shirt Day

Wednesday, 23rd: Favorite Ag. Brand Day

Thursday, 24th: FFA Shirt Day

Friday, 25th: Official Dress

If you have any questions regarding National FFA Week, please ask one of the advisors or officers!

Leadership Contests are Calling!

It is time to begin preparing for District Leadership Contest, taking place on Friday, March 11th. We are scheduled to have our leadership call-out this Wednesday, however, with the weather the way it currently is, we may not even have school! If you are interested in doing a leadership contest, you must attend this call-out in. There are only so many contests in which members can compete!
Throughout this week, we have had information over each of the contests available to members. If you have not had the opportunity to pick of the information, visit this link below. All of the contests highlighted in yellow are leadership contests.

http://www.indianaffa.org/association/cde.htm

Competing in a leadership contest is a great way for members to gain better public speaking skills, self-confidence, and - of course, leadership qualities. Leadership contests are much different than CDEs in the sense that they are not a team contest. Whether it's giving a demonstration, speech, or even competing in quiz bowl, you must be self motivated in order to succeed. Leadership Contests are such a great opportunity for members! If you are interested in competing, please make arrangements to attend the call-out!

Warsaw FFA Dominates at State Dairy Foods Contest

On Saturday, January 29th, 16 FFA members traveled to Purdue University to compete at the Indiana FFA State Dairy Foods Contest. The Warsaw FFA Chapter came out very successful! Our Gold team consisting of Lauryn Steffe, Maryssa Hawley, Kyle Quick and Rheann Weaver placed 1st in the state. They will now have the opportunity to compete in the National Dairy Foods Contest at National Convention this coming October. Our Silver team consisting of Lindsey O'Hara, Madison Dobbins, Bryce Owens, and Mikalea Conley placed 2nd in the state with only being 1 point away from 1st! Placing 7th in the state was our "Young Cheese" team with Mitchell Hall, Bryce Sands, Ashley Bryer, and Mary Bonheimer.

For our individual results, we had three members place in the Top 10. They were as follows:

Lauryn Steffe - 1st place

Lindsey O'Hara - 2nd place

Madison Dobbins - 9th place

Congratulations to our top individuals!

Other Warsaw FFA participants were Morgan Ancil and Derrick Carelson.

In the Junior division, Danielle Olds placed 7th in the state. Andrea Hartman also competed on Saturday.

We are very proud of the performance from our members! Congratulations.

Dairy Foods is a Career Development Event that focuses on getting members more familiar about dairy food products. In this contest, members learn how to identify popular types of cheese based on appearance, texture, taste, and smell. They also learn how to identify non-dairy products from real dairy products, look for defects in milk, and detect problems with milker unit parts. In addition, members take a test that requires knowledge of all aspects of the dairy industry.

Summer SAE Field Trips

FFA members! Summer SAE Field trips have been finalized! There was a mass email sent out to FFA members containing all of the information necessary for the two field trips. If you did not receive this information and would like to via email, please email us at warsawffachapter1977@gmail.com

The first field trip will be taking place on Monday, July 26th. It is at Clunette Elevator where we will get a behind-the-scenes look at how an elevator operates. We will be meeting at Clunette Elevator in Leesburg at 10:00 AM. FFA members needing a ride to the elevator will have to meet the advisors in the WCHS parking lot at 9:30AM. (Please contact an advisor if you are in need of a ride). The tour is expected to end at 11:30A.M.

The other field trip will be taking place on August 5th. We will be going down to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to assist in setting up the FFA Pavilion for the District II State Fair Workday! We will be meeting at the Warsaw Walmart parking lot at 6:00AM and taking a Whitko bus down to the fairgrounds. It is advised that you wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty as we will most likely be finishing up the landscaping in the pavilion. We will return from from the field trip at approximately 6:00PM. Lunch will be provided by the district.

If you have any questions about the field trips or Summer SAE class, please contact Mrs. Markley or Mrs. Jarrett.

Remember! In order to get an "A" in the class, you MUST attend one out of the two field trips! Also, FFA members NOT in Summer SAE can still join us!

Young McDonald's Barn

Every year, our chapter prepares and runs the Young McDonald's Barn during the Kosciusko County fair. During this week, we have the barn filled with baby animals including calves, bunnies, kids (both goats and humans), chicks, and ducklings. We have hundreds of visitors pass through the barn throughout the week to see the baby animals. During the day, we have FFA members work in barn to make sure everything runs smoothly and to interact with the public.

Earlier today an email was sent out to each FFA member (who's email address we have) that contained the shift schedule for the barn. If you did NOT receive this email because you are NOT on our emailing list, shoot us an email at warsawffachapter1977@gmail.com Be sure to include your name and we'll start sending you updates via email.

The shift schedule that was sent out included the names of everybody who has already scheduled their shift for the barn. Each shift is two hours long. During each shift, FFA members will be responsible for interacting with visitors by teaching them about the animals that are in the barn as well as agriculture and our FFA chapter. This is a great public relation opportunity! When working in the barn, it is required that every FFA act maturely. There will be a list of expectations that each member must follow. The Young McDonald's Barn is not the place for members to fool around. Please remember this when you are working your shift(s).

We ask that every member sign up for at least one shift. To schedule your shift, contact Lauryn Steffe, Devan Ostrom, or Mallarie Stookey. Their numbers can be found on the shift schedule. You can also email us at warsawffachapter1977@gmail.com.

The theme for the convention was "Driven by the Blue. Guided by the Gold." Over 2,500 members, advisors, and guests from across the state were in attendance.

On June 14th, twelve members from the Warsaw FFA Chapter competed in various contests at the Indiana FFA State Leadership Contest. Several members walked away with high placings: Kristin Quick, Ashley Byrer, Bryce Sands, and Carrie Hawley - 1st place Quiz Bowl, Kyle Quick - 3rd place Plant and Soil Science Demonstration, and Alexis Ostrom - 4th place Discovery Degree Public Speaking. Other members competing in contests were: Kaila Grimm - Job Interview; Devan Ostrom - Agriculture and Farm Business Management Demonstration; Lauryn Steffe, Mallarie Stookey, Devan Ostrom, and Brooke Kline - Agricultural Issues Forum; Gianna Hartman - Multimedia Scrapbook and Female Leadership Ambassador.

Warsaw FFA also had three individuals qualify as proficiency finalist. They were: Mallarie Stookey - 4th place Dairy Production Entrepreneurship; Gianna Hartman - 3rd place Agricultural Communications; and Matthew Boggs - 1st place Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship. Matthew Boggs will now submit his proficiency to be judged at the national level.

On June 16th, Kyle Quick was elected the District II Treasurer and Gianna Hartman was elected as Section I Director. Being elected into these positions will require each of them to serve the Indiana FFA above the chapter level.

Throughout their time at convention, members participated in workshops to further develop their leadership skills, listened to the state officers deliver their retiring addresses, and watched keynote speakers as they inspired and motivated the crowd. At the conclusion of convention, the 2010-2011 Indiana FFA State Officer team was installed to lead our state through another successful year.

PALS

The next PALS dates will be on May 4th and May 11th. Proficiencies, State Degrees, Leadership Contest, Chapter Meeting Contest, FFA Week, and so much more is on the horizon for us! Please be listening to the school announcements and checking your FFA calendars so you are aware of everything we have going on!

PALS - Some of you may have noticed that PALS has been cut down to only once a month now. Because of our members' schedules, we felt it was best to stop doing PALS every 2 weeks. Towards the end of the school year, we may start doing PALS twice a month again depending on the involvement from our members. Our January PALS date is Tuesday, January 12th.

January FFA Meeting - Our January FFA Meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, January 20th. Please be sure to attend! With us not having a December meeting, we need to be sure that our members are aware of what's going on! We have a ton of items on the agenda for the evening so please make this a priority. To make up for our December meeting, we will be having a White Elephant gift exchange as well as our carry in meal. The meal will start at 6:00p.m. followed by the meeting. After the meeting is adjourned, we will have our White Elephant Gift Exchange. Please see the December Meeting post below for details.

Dairy Foods - Dairy Foods practices have started and we're hoping for another successful year! We have 16 members who will be competing at the Indiana State Dairy Foods Contest on Saturday, January 30th located at Purdue University. During this contest, members will be identifying cheeses, detecting defects in milk, examining problems in milker unit parts, identifying non-dairy products from real dairy products, and taking a written test over milk marketing and production.

Chapter Meeting Contest - This year, our chapter is hoping to compete in the Chapter Meeting Contest! The concept of this contest is to become familiar with using correct parliamentary procedure by conducting a "fake" FFA meeting. This is an extremely intense contest and requires that you attend 100% of the practices. If you are planning on running for a chapter office sometime during your FFA career, this will be a great way for you to become familiar with running a meeting! The call-out will be on Monday, January 25th from 3-4:00p.m. with practices starting in February. Please sign-up in Mrs. Markley's room if you are planning on attending this call out.

Proficiencies and State Degrees - There have been two dates set aside for members filling out their proficiencies and/or state degrees: Monday, January 11th 3-3:34p.m. and Tuesday, January 19th 3-3:45p.m. These applications will be due on Friday, January 29th to Mrs. Markley or Mrs. Jarrett. If you have questions, please see either of the advisors.

Leadership Development Workshop - Gianna Hartman, Jesse O'Hara, Taylor Hartman, and Kyle Quick will be heading to Trafalgar, IN for Leadership Development Workshop (LDW) on Friday, January 15th to participate in a weekend-long leadership conference. During this conference, these chapter officers will be learning how to better their leaderships skills and focus on teamwork.

Please check back within the next week for further information on FFA Week! This is one of the most exciting weeks in FFA and we want all of our members to participate in our activities! If you have questions about any of the information provided on this blog, please see Gianna Hartman.

November Updates

The Warsaw FFA Chapter website is FINALLY up and running! Adopt-A-Family
The Warsaw FFA Chapter has adopted a family! This is going to serve as our winter community service project. Members of this committee have done an awesome job getting everything together for this! In Mrs. Markley's room, there is a bulletin board decorated with paper ornaments. Each ornament contains one item that a child from our adopted family asked for. If you are interested, please go to Mrs. Markley's room and take one of these ornaments. All items are due on December 15th. We are also having a canned food drive for the family. There are boxes set up in Mrs. Markley's room for you guys to put the canned food in. However, please note that we are not only taking canned food. We are also taking any non-perishable goods that are commonly used around the house (i.e. paper towels, laundry detergent, soap, etc.). If you guys have any questions, please see Cheyenne Blanchard. If you can't find her (she co-ops) you can come see me (Gianna Hartman).

PALS
The next PALS visit will be on Tuesday, December 1st. Cecilia Burchett is planning this visit. Our theme is going to be "Candy Canes". She's going to look into how candy canes are made and then share it with the 2nd graders. It's going to be a great time! Please sign up in Mrs. Jarrett's or Mrs. Markley's room if you are planning on attending.
The other PALS visit in December will be on the 15th. Cheyenne Blanchard has been planning this one out for about a month now. At our last PALS visit, she took pictures of all the 2nd graders and is going to print them out and have them decorate a holiday-related magnet with their picture. It's going to be pretty cool. Come check it out! Sign-up sheets aren't up yet for this visit but they will be on December 1st.
If you are interested in planning any PALS visits, please see Gianna Hartman or Jesse O'Hara. We love when members plan visits!

Holiday Dinner/December FFA Meeting/White Elephant Gift Exchange
You can say you heard it here first! Here are the first details of our December FFA Meeting. Please share with other FFA members as the officer team has not gotten any information out to you guys at all - and it's only 12 days away!!
Holiday Dinner: This will be the first event of the evening. It will be starting at 5:45p.m. Now, this meal is unlike any of our other meals at FFA meetings. We like this meal to be a bit "fancier". The FFA will be providing the meat (which is typically a nice ham) as well as the drinks. We are relying on you, as FFA members, to help us with the rest of the meal! Think of what your favorite dish is to along with a nice Christmas ham (or regular ham...) and bring it in! There will be a sign-up sheet in Mrs. Jarrett's and Mrs. Markley's rooms by Tuesday. Please let us know what you are planning on bringing so we can have an idea as to what to expect.
FFA Meeting: The FFA Meeting will be starting at 6:30p.m. We will be discussing Citrus Fruit Sales, the Community Appreciation Supper & Member Worker Auction, Dairy Foods CDE, PALS, Proficiencies, State Degrees, Adopt-A-Family, as well as many other topics. You will not want to miss this FFA meeting! Please be sure to attend!
White Elephant Gift Exchange: This will take place immediately after the FFA meeting. For those of you who are uncertain of what this is, I'll explain it. FFA members wishing to participate will bring in a small gift that is already wrapped. When they come into the Ag. Department, we will put a number on their gift and also put that number in a basket. After the FFA meeting is adjourned, we will have participating members draw a number from the basket. The number they get is the gift they will receive. One by one, we will have each member open their present. It's always a fun time! If you are participating, we ask that you purchase a gift no more than $5 -$7.00. Some of the gifts in the past have been: plungers, duct tape, and a dollar bill. This is NOT mandatory for members - it's merely optional. If you any questions, please see me.

This wraps up our first post on the new Warsaw FFA blog! Keep checking back as this will be continually updated with loads of information for you guys! Let me leave you with these wise words:

"Take advantage of your opportunties, you never know when the next one will come knocking on your door." - Mrs. Markley

- Gianna Hartman

We had nearly 50 members and their family members attend family bowling on Sunday February 22nd. On Tuesday February 24th classes were able to hear from Northern Region Vice President Laura Stockwell, who was also the guest speaker at the Greenhand banquet later that evening. At the Greenhand Banquet 23 new members received their Greenhand Degree. Wednesday members took part in Tractor Drive- IN. On Thursday members began preping for the big Staff Appreciation Breakfast that took place on Friday morning. Members were up bright and early to serve over 120 WCHS staff members breakfast. On the menu was bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, muffins, orange juice, and milk, all of which were donations by members and local business. Throughout the week there were also small activities in the back of the ag room that were aimed to increase members FFA knowledge on a chapter and national level. All in all National FFA Week 2009 was a tremendous success. The Warsaw FFA Chapter achieved the three goals it set out for National FFA Week, build stronger relationships, serve the community, and celebrate the FFA Organization.

Dairy Foods Takes Home The Win

Congratulations Dairy Foods Judging Teams!
